Chapter 4 – The Last Fucking Thing

EPOV

“Sophie Anne LeCunt strikes again…”

My non-telepathic child’s whispered words made me wonder if her vampire gift of snark had been joined with mind reading.

I had just been thinking something along those same lines.

Fucking Sophie Anne and her fucking need to fuck everyone over.

With Godric’s unexpected arrival – and his even more unexpected confession about Sookie’s gifts – the last fucking thing we needed was a visit from the Magister.

The. Last. Fucking. Thing.

But with Godric’s presence drawing the majority of his attention, I had some modicum of hope we had very little to worry about now that Sookie was long gone with any evidence they could have found.

Knowing the guards’ search would only produce a tuna on rye, I concentrated on the small tie I now had with my new sister, wondering where she’d chosen to go to wait out the Magister.

Her proximity made it easier, but she would have needed to take my blood in order for me to track her with any real accuracy. For now I could only sense that she was moving north.

But that was all I needed to realize – much too late to do anything about it – there was only one place she would go.

Home.

She couldn’t have known what she would find there. Even with our Maker’s blood in her veins, I doubted even he could have stopped her from asking me what had happened to her former home had she known of its destruction all along, while sitting in my office earlier in the evening.

But with no way to call her back – it wouldn’t have been safe to do so, even if I could – I focused solely on our Maker, looking for any sign from him he could feel her distress.

I was thankful our bond was now fully opened because I felt his internal startle nearly twenty minutes later, but neither his expression nor his voice faltered at all as he continued to speak to the Magister.

While his worry only continued to grow with every minute that slowly ticked by, I felt my fingers twitch, with my body itching to take flight on a northward trajectory. I blamed it on the fact I still had questions for my new sister.

Two months’ worth of, “What the fuck happened?” didn’t go away easily.

When their fruitless search finally concluded, one of the guards approached the Magister and stated, “Nothing.”

He looked pissed more than anything, but I couldn’t be sure over what until he said, “Childish twat. I should take her fangs to use as the dice for her beloved Yahtzee, but appointing a new regime is so time-consuming.”

And then turning to meet Godric’s eyes, he added, “Unless you would be willing to take Louisiana? We can be in New Orleans before sunrise and the vampire of this state can rise to a new monarch come sunset.”

“I would think with my recent run in with the Fellowship, my leadership could be called into question,” he replied smoothly.

And only reminded me of more, “What the fuck happened?” questions I had for my Maker.

I would think it would only take a single challenge from one of your new subjects for the rest to learn not to question their new king,” he replied just as smoothly. “At your age anyone would be a fool to go against you. You’re levelheaded, which is more than the current monarch can claim, and you don’t scare the humans. In this new climate we face, you would be the perfect successor.”

Godric was never one who coveted power or prestige, so I was surprised to not feel any abhorrence coming from him over the Magister’s words. Instead he was…

Deliberating?

And then it hit me.

Both the full force of his anxiety and the reason for his outright refusal at being offered his own kingdom.

Sookie.

“Perhaps we can continue to discuss the possibilities,” Godric casually offered, just as his eyes darted to me with an unspoken command. And then looking back at the Magister, he added, “While my child sees to my belongings. My visit this evening was a surprise to him.”

“Of course,” he replied, with a wave of his hand, and effectively dismissed me with, “Apologies Sheriff. Your queen is a cunt.”

“He forgot the ‘Le’,” Pam whispered at my back.

But not wanting any further delays – least of all from her big mouth – I sent her a silent admonishment through our tie and bowed before Godric and the Magister before taking my leave.

Flying at top speed to Sookie’s house, I reached Bon Temps in record time, and while what appeared to be a rental car was parked in front of the house, she wasn’t there.

Or at Compton’s.

Or the cemetery in between.

Instead I found her a few miles away, standing on the porch and staring in through the busted front door of what I knew to be her brother’s house.

Landing in the yard behind her, I made sure to make enough noise so that she would know I was there, before softly calling out, “Sookie?”

Turning towards me, I could see her face was streaked with bloody tears and her body trembled, as she choked out, “I can’t…I can’t go inside.”

Slowly moving towards her, as though she were a frightened animal, I nodded and reminded her of the rules she now had to play by, explaining, “You need an invitation.”

“My house,” she cried. “It’s…it’s…destroyed. And Jason’s truck wasn’t at the bar, but Merlotte’s was all boarded up with a ‘For Sale’ sign on the front. Sam’s gone and Jason’s gone and I’m worried and…”

“And,” I interrupted, moving forward and taking her into my arms – surprised she’d allowed it, but unable to watch her fall apart anymore – while I added, “A lot has happened in the time you have been gone, but I will tell you all that I know. And the last that I had heard, your brother is alive and well.”

And a Fellowship soldier.

“He’s a what?” she gasped, pulling back to look up at me.

I had forgotten her gift now included vampire and I blamed our conversing in English for my thoughts to be in the same language. But ‘Fellowship’ would be ‘Fellowship’ in any language and Sookie’s intellect would have made the point moot anyway.

So I only offered aloud, “I will explain everything, but I am sure Godric will want to know as well. He is still with the Magister, so do you think you can calm yourself? He is worried for you and he needs to focus right now.”

On whether or not he wanted to be ‘Kinged’.

I wasn’t sure how I felt about the idea of him becoming the King of Louisiana, knowing I would likely be called to be his second. But as a monarch, all of his subjects would be made to swear fealty to him.

And – therefore – to protect his children.

A royal station would be an added layer of security for Sookie, should her gifts become known.

Putting some space between us, she stared up at me once again and asked, “Jason is alive?”

Yes.

Knowing she could read my thoughts, I’d answered her silently and then finished out loud with, “You will be staying with me for the day. Pam will bring Godric to my house once he’s finished with the Magister. But before we return, is there anything you wish to gather from your home?”

She stalled for a moment, contemplating my offer, before shaking her head and answering, “I can’t. Not right now. Not if my meltdown is going to affect Godric while the Magister is still there.”

Honestly, I was surprised she hadn’t put up any argument for me to give her all of the answers she wanted right now.

Given our previous interactions, I’d expected to be slapped at the very least.

Apparently more than just her species had changed.

“Very well.”

Pulling her back into my arms, I shot us both up into the sky without warning, but she didn’t appear to be shocked by our sudden flight.

She didn’t appear to be…anything.

And I surprised myself, finding I didn’t care to see her that way.

But hoping to entice her into a conversation, I started off small with, “I will send someone to repair the door to your brother’s house and retrieve the car you drove to your own.”

Not getting any response back from her – not that my words warranted one – I still suspected she was lost in her own thoughts.

None of which were likely any good.

But noticing her skin felt warmer than I had expected, given her new state, I hoped to distract her from them by commenting, “You feel warm.”

“So are your thoughts,” she eventually whispered into my chest.

I didn’t care to delve into that particular subject either, not having any clue what to say or feel about anything I had learned that night.

So I tried to get back to my original topic by questioning, “Have you fed recently?”

It would explain her warmer temperature, but her only response came in the form of a small shake of her head, so I asked, “Are you hungry?”

I had bagged donor blood at the house, but I would take her hunting if she preferred a fresh meal.

“That’s sweet of you, but I haven’t fed from a donor yet. Godric would want to be there.”

“That will take some time to get used to,” I chuckled.

Obviously, I still wasn’t used to her strengthened gift.

“So I’ve been told.”

I didn’t know if she was speaking of feeding or her telepathy, but her mood only seemed to worsen, so I playfully nudged her and offered, “I will apologize now for whatever untoward thoughts you hear from me about you in the future.”

She shrugged as much as my hold on her would allow and went back to her previous musings by saying, “You’re not so bad. Your thoughts – the ones I can understand anyway – aren’t anything like what I expected them to be. My shields are a lot stronger now, but I think I’m too emotional to keep them up. Nothing bad has happened in the last couple of months for me to have prepared for something like this, so I’m not used to it.”

A small chuckle, without any humor, came through her lips, as she rhetorically asked, “Says a lot about me and my luck, huh? No sooner do I come home and everything falls to shit.”

Or,” I conjectured, “You could realize that everything fell to shit without you here.”

Instead of making her feel better – which had been my intent – more bloody tears rimmed her eyes, as she said, “That’s my fault too.”

Not wanting to make her feel worse and doubting there was much I could say to make her feel better, I chose to remain silent for a while and attempted to quiet my mind, so even my thoughts wouldn’t cause her more upset.

I hadn’t been flying nearly as fast as I had on my way to Bon Temps – nor was I willing to think about the reasons why that might be.

What with a telepath in my arms and all.

I was learning.

But because we had some time to reach our destination – and it was a topic Godric would already be knowledgeable about – when she appeared to come out of her thoughts on her own, I quietly asked, “What happened on that day in the Fellowship’s church?”

I knew it wasn’t a likely topic that would cheer her up, but I wasn’t as patient for answers as she was.

So I justified my question in my own mind with the fact I had been waiting for two months versus her ten minutes.

“Hugo,” she sighed.

Quickly flipping through my mental files, I questioned, “Isabel’s human?”

She nodded against my chest and explained, “He was a Fellowship spy.”

My fangs snapped down automatically, apparently causing Sookie’s to snap down as well, and in that moment, I couldn’t decide what I wanted more.

The human spy’s head as a hood ornament or Sookie’s naked body sprawled out on the hood of my corvette instead.

But it was no contest.

Sookie won before the race could even start.

Her small intake of air preceded her next words by several seconds before she finally said, “A Hugo hood ornament is the way to go.”

One day I would remember she could read my thoughts.

But in the meantime…

I gave her even more incentive to rebuild her shields by playing out my mental fantasy, causing her to then comically attempt to hide from me, while still caged in my arms.

No longer warm my thoughts could only be described as hot, when she pinched my side and added, “Keep it up, Mr. Gutter Mind. I don’t care if you already apologized. I’ll still put a hurtin’ on you.”

And perhaps…one day…she would learn to be careful when choosing her words around me.

Repositioning her body from holding her bridal style, so that the length of her body was pressed against mine, she gave no outward sign she was displeased.

If I hadn’t feared alerting her to her body’s actions, I would have chuckled out loud when her legs automatically wound their way around my waist.

But I used our new position to bury my face against her neck and purred out my warning of, “No worries, Lover. It is likely to remain up for the foreseeable future. And whatever torture you choose to bestow on me will still bring me great pleasure.”

Unapologetically using the front of my t-shirt to clean the evidence of tears from her face, the fresh scent of her blood was making me lose focus on every-fucking-thing.

But her voice managed to register in my mind, when she eventually huffed, “You’re such a…a…turd.”

Oh no.

Not that.

”You have no room to talk,” I chuckled and stole one last draw of her scent before forcing myself to pull back enough to try to clear my head. Then pressing more firmly against her lower half, I added with a fake grimace, “Something smells fishy in the Sookie south lands.”

Even if it wasn’t a lie, I didn’t care.

About the way she smelled or the way she managed to steer the subject away from our original topic of her last day as a human.

At the moment, the only thing I cared about was the way she threw her head back, with the sounds of bubbling laughter erupting from her throat.

I’d always thought she was beautiful as a human, but as a vampire Sookie was undeniably stunning.

I couldn’t be sure if she had finally managed to reconstruct her shields, but she made no mention of what I’d been thinking and instead took her right hand away from my side to reach in between our bodies.

My brow inched up with every inch her skirt rose up, as she pulled it higher up her legs, but she only smiled back at me innocently all the while. I couldn’t see exactly what she was doing from our positioning, but before my hopes could raise high enough to mimic my cock, all of me was dashed when I was accosted by the bag of vials she shoved down the front of my jeans, while she teased, “Now we match.”

The thought of anything of Sophie Anne’s so close to my dick was enough to temper the urges Sookie’s presence caused.

Pulling the bag out – because LeCunt had to be French slang for crotch rot, which was surely as contagious as it sounded – I put it in my pocket instead and stared back at Sookie, while I deadpanned, “That is nothing like how I’d imagined the first time you put your hand down my pants would be.”

“Me neither,” she shrugged and then added with a grin, “I always thought I would at least have a pocket knife in my hand while it was in there.”

“Funny,” I glared.

“I thought so,” she impishly agreed.

We were finally nearing the house, but I slowed down even more when she all of her amusement disappeared, as she softly said, “Godric saved me. He gave me the choice, but I chose him and he chose me.”

Having been given the same choice a thousand years earlier, I understood more than she might have realized. But the only sign I gave her that I was listening was a slight tightening of my arms around her body, afraid anything more would make her shut down.

Her head had come to rest on my shoulder, so her eyes were hidden from me, with her lips only inches from my ear. But without my enhanced senses, I wouldn’t have been able to hear her confess, “I was attacked by one of the Fellowship’s men. He threw me across the room and I’m pretty sure he broke my back. I couldn’t feel much after that, but he was on top of me. I knew from his thoughts he was in me. By the time Godric got there and killed him, he’d already stabbed me in the chest. I was drowning in my own blood. I wouldn’t have recovered. Not from any of it.”

Her soft spoken admission answered more questions than I had any right to ask.

Why she didn’t smell like anything more than having had Godric’s blood in her body.

Why our Maker kept me from preying on her – even playfully – in my office earlier that evening.

My mind automatically pulled the recollection from my memory of what I’d found in the basement that night.

The human body I’d discovered, torn in half and lying next to a lake of blood.

Sookie’s blood.

And then I outwardly cursed myself for unwittingly adding to her misery when she shuddered, saying, “That’s him.”

Wiping my mind clear, I said, “You don’t have to tell me anything more.”

I wasn’t sure I could handle hearing any more, knowing she wouldn’t have been there at all had it not been for me.

“You have a right to know.”

Again, I wasn’t sure how to respond. Sookie hadn’t been mine at the time. My only right to her then was as an asset of my area, no matter what plans I may have had for her to be my future lover.

But that wouldn’t have stopped me from torturing her rapist as though he’d violated Freyja herself.

In my mind, his offense was just as great.

But it was apparent my mind was no longer being read by the gifted goddess in my arms because we nearly crashed into the treetops, when she looked at me and said the last fucking thing I would have ever expected to be told.

“He’s your Maker too. You have a right to know Godric was there that night of his own free will and he planned to meet the sun.”

It’s a treat to read a story where Sookie chose to be turned and isn’t raging against her vampire state. And of course Eric’s gentle concern for her (mixed with humor) is the perfect touch.

  2. saldred75 says:

wonderful update per usual! great story!!!

  3. kleannhouse says:

Love this story! Eric trying to be careful not to upset her is so sweet. Wonder what Godric is going to decide?

  6. mindy781 says:

I really enjoyed this chapter. It was fun watching E/S interact. Sookie really is doing well it really has been a rough couple of months. I like how this Sookie has grown and adapted. Their banter was funny.

  7. raineygirl says:

Great chapter! Loving Eric’s concern for Sookie.

  8. ericluver says:

Loving this. I’m glad Eric and Sookie are getting along so well. Godric should definitely be King. Pam calling SA “le cunt” …hilarious…and true!

  9. theladykt says:

Glad Sookie isn’t being her human unreasonable self. Yeah Skanky Anne needs to go.

  10. Kittyinaz says:

Love this. A vampire Sookie that is not whining, and a gentle Eric. You always write the most interesting E/S!!

  11. Jackie69 says:

I really loved the interaction between Eric and Sookie in this chapter!
Now Godric has got a lot of explaining to do… why he wanted to end his undead life
Pam calling the QSA “Le Cunt” was hilarious

  12. lostinspace33 says:

Eric’s going to love her even more when he realizes that she’s the reason Godric no longer has a death wish. Thanks for the new chapter!

  13. murgatroid98 says:

I can’t imagine coming home to something like that. I hope when/if she finds Jason, that he understands she was turned because of the Fellowship.

I can’t remember from the previous chapter, but I guess a lot of the people from Sookie’s life are dead. I can’t help hoping she gets a chance to kill the maenad at some point.

I love the way Eric tried to comfort her. They certainly have more in common now. I think Godric won’t be happy with Sookie telling Eric why he was at the church.

I love how they handled the magister. He’s right, Godric would make a good monarch and be able to protect Sookie. It’s tougher for her in some ways to be reading vampire minds, but also potentially very beneficial.

  14. redjane12 says:

I so love E and S in this story… Great sibling dynamic… Sookie is a lot more chilled about being a vampire thanks to a) being given a choice and b) Godric as a maker is really a good fit esp as Sookie’s early life experience with adults was less than ideal… Esp. The lack of supernatural understanding…

    • redjane12 says:

Forgot to say… Yay for Godric as monarch… This magister has some common sense!!!

Ouch at Jason with the fellowship… I know he’s not smart but I found his joining that hateful crowd unpalatable…

  15. Soyshay says:

I LOVE this story. Thank you for the update.

  16. baronessjai says:

Damn girl. ..lol you sure know how to make an entrance. ….see ya next chapter 😉

  17. suzymeinen says:

What a great update. Love how how sookie choose vampirism and is much calmer about it then most vamp sookies. I always love your e/s pairs.

  18. fffbone says:

Godric would be great to be king. It’s only been 2 months for Sookie. She has a lot to think about. If she wasn’t a vampire, who knows what this would do to her. I hope Jason isn’t there by his own free will, and it’s something else keeping him there.

I still love Eric and Sookie together. I hope they do.

  19. Mandy says:

Love this story. I’m currently recovering from a bad cold and I have a lingering headache. This mad me feel better. Thanks. Have a happy new year

  20. Rayne says:

you have been greatly missed what a wonderful start to the new year..

  21. nedbella says:

Another beautifully written chapter. Godric becoming king would make it so he could protect her more. Eric could be his second and Pam, Sherrif of area 5. Great story.

  22. lzdiva4 says:

Loving this. Eric and Sookie seem to make good siblings. Looking forward to more.

  23. ashmo2000 says:

Eric is very understandable of Sookie’s wishes and assisting her new vampire family with her care until she rises. Who gave Mr. Gus Sookie’s address? I know who, but I hope wrong. Thalia will set a bitch straight.

  24. gb says:

Ths is my kind of New Year gift glad you had time to share.

  25. Great Chapter! She is giving Godric a reason to live and rise each night. A new lease on his un-life. I wonder if he will accept the chance to become King. My guess is Jason is not going to accept her new state of being. He is probably still screwing Sarah & a Soldier of the Light. And my guess is Mary Ann killed Sam since Sookie & Bill were not there to help him…

  26. glamouredbyyou says:

Excellent chapter. Sookies does great as a Vampire and reading Eric’s thoughts is the perfect kick for this story. Love it.

  27. together24x3 says:

I absolutely love this and I can’t wait for more!!!!

  28. fanficglo says:

Great update! Glad that Eric and Sookie are getting along!

  29. lilydragonsblood says:

wow!….this is so moving….eric’s gentleness and concern for her are so touching….you write him so well….*gulp*…..can’t wait for an update.

  30. askarsgirl says:

    Omg Sophie Anne Le Cunt.
Bwahaha!! Loved this update. Will Godric become King of Louisiana? What will Eric’s reaction be to the news of Godric’s almost attempted suicide? So many questions and I’m looking forward to the answers! Can’t wait for another update😃

  31. jules3677 says:

Yes. Me too. LeCunt, wonderfully poetic!! Enjoyed the update. The Eric & Sookie flying repartee was interesting. The slight hint of attraction with their niggles at the other makes it oh so more interesting. Glad that Sookie let Eric know that Godric was at FoTS HQ of his own free will contemplating allowing them to end his existence. Looking forward to the next update. 🙂

  32. vamplover669 says:

I miss this story, along with Revamped and an update on All In: Flip Side! I hope you have time in the New Year to do so. ☺

well, I just got caught up in the story (again) after getting your email alert. Hope to see you updating this one soon. I love vampire Sookie stories ! thank you!

  43. i do love this story. hope to read more. i hope Godric becomes king. he is deserving to be one, that’s for sure. 🙂

  44. murgatroid98 says:

I had forgotten about this story and I don’t remember reading this chapter before. The other person’s story looks interesting and I plan to read it, too, so thanks for bringing to to my attention.

There are several stories out there where Godric turned Sookie when he fount her in the church basement. Each one is a little, or a lot, different. There is one “My Child” (can’t remember the author’s name), that is good. Of course the similarity to your story ends at Sookie’s turning, Another story that I enjoy very much is Dead to Dead. It’s a vampire Sookie story, but she was turned by an unknown maker five years before and left in the ground to fend for herself. She doesn’t even know how to be a vampire in that one.

It’s hard to create a story that doesn’t have elements of someone else’s. I think author’s get the same ideas and run them in different directions. Anyway, I hope to see more of this one soon, it’s been a while.

  45. halconmia says:

I hope you get back to this story at some point. Love what I have read so far!

  46. jfozz says:

Will Godric be king? Of course, it would offer protection and a way to make changes that impact a lot more vampires, but having a new child must be a priority. Maybe he’ll enlist Eric to help with her training. I wonder where LaLa is? I think when Jason finds out it was the Fellowship that killed Sookie that he’ll turn his back on them. As for Compton, let Lorena keep him.
    Just love Pam.
    Blessings

  47. Sam says:

I’m super excited to know what will happen next!! Please update soon! The story is already really good and it is so well written and original!

  48. alishasdean says:

Hoping to see more of this one. 🙂

  49. Mandy says:

List count how many ones of read and reread this story. Please don’t give up on it.

  50. Meg N says:

Agh! I love this story! I know you’re trying to finish a couple others right now, but I hope this is on your list to try and finish next! Honestly though, I have yet to read a story of yours that I don’t like. Thanks for writing!

  51. Aeryn says:

Hi, just read this again and hope to encourage your muse to be obsessed with it and write loads more of it or any story really 😆.

  52. I am now thinking I did not read this story too far before. I love it so far. WOW.
